Christmas Vacation

Like all of you, I am desperately looking forward to Christmas break. Don't get me wrong, I love my job and getting to spend all day with all of you makes me glad I chose the profession I did, but everyone likes a break now and then. I look forward to spending more time with my family and not having to worry about grading or lesson planning for a week or two.

My holiday plans are pretty hectic, but they should be fun. On Christmas Eve-Eve, we will be going to my parents house in Kansas sometime in the afternoon and will be spending the night. On Christmas Eve morning, we will wake up bright and early to open gifts and spend the day relaxing and enjoying each other's company. That evening, my wife, kids, and I will head home to attend service at our church in Mattoon. We will wake up bright and early again on Christmas morning to open presents. After that, we will pack-up and drive to my wife's grandmother's house in Pana for more holiday food, family time, and presents. Once we leave there, we will go spend the night at my in-law's house, also in Pana. The next morning, we will wake up bright and early once again to, you guessed it, open more presents. Hopefully, we will then be able to relax for the rest of the day and let our hands recover from wrapping-paper-shredding syndrome before making the drive back home to Mattoon.

I hope you all have exciting plans laid on for the holiday season as well. Feel free to share your plans with all of us.

Finally, I would like to ask all of you to keep our brave servicemembers stationed around the globe, as well as their families, in your thoughts. I know from experience that being away from the ones you love during this time of year is difficult. I spent two Thanksgivings, two Christmases, and two New Years in the middle east, and I have a bunch of friends deployed to Afghanistan right now as part of the 33rd Brigade Combat Team.

Happy Holidays!

  3. Christmas!..wow gotta love it. a great excuse for a couple weeks off school. we get gifts and what not, you spend time with the family and eat awesome food..if you don't like christmas there is something wrong with you. But..I think everyone needs to remember the reason we celebrate christmas and its importance, some people get so caught up in meals and gifts and breaks they forget why we celebrate it in the first place, its kinda sad.

My christmas will be pretty boring, just going to like 3 different family dinners and opening presents, on christmas morning. Christmas day will be the best because our whole family comes to our house on christmas day and eats lunch and hangs out all day, its usually pretty interesting.

  7. I love Christmas time! You get to get out of school and sleep in. Christmas time is when you get to hang out and relax with the family you love and unfortunately also the family you try to avoid the rest of the year. The Christmas season is all about loving everyone who has blessed your life and giving to those who may not be as fortunate as you. Christmas was never to be about the latest, greatest gadget that you ‘have’ to have it was always about appreciation of what you already have and all the things that you already have instead of concentrating on the things you don’t have.

My Christmas break consists of eating, sleeping, and playing video games.  After all of the finals that I have to take this week, I’ll need all the sleep I can get to make up for all the sleep I’m going to lose by studying (Yeah right).

  8. Christmas break is awesome because after our finals you don't have to worry about homework and when school starts back up again your grades start over and it's your chance to start over. im looking forward to having free time to read draw and try to make everybody hats in time to open as christmas presents. Merry Christmas

  9. I really like the Christmas/winter season because we get to spend lots of time with our family and I love hot cocoa and the way a fireplace looks when there is a fire actually in it! I definitely agree w/ Kacey because it is a really good excuse to get out of school and take a break! :) Another good part about Christmas is present, duh.. although it is not first on my priority list!

  10. I love this time of the year. Christmas is my favorite holiday. It is great being able to spend time with family and friends, instead of worrying about school. I also love the snow. Over break I don't have many plans yet. I do know that I am going to my grandparents for Christmas Eve, and on Christmas day my family is coming to my house. I also plan on hanging out with friends, and going to Rocksomnia. I can't wait for finals to be over and Christmas break to start.

  11. Christmas=)..definitly my favorite holiday! being with family, opening presents, eating Great food-who wouldn't like it!! I also think that we all need to keep our men and women overseas in our thoughts and prayers, as i also have a loved one in Afganistan. This Christmas thank god for all the wonderful things you have surrounding you instead of nit-picking everything for it's bad.

My Christmas Plans are full of Church, opening presents, being with family and friends, eating wonderful food, and snowmobiling!=))

    Merry Christmass!

  13. Being in such a big family is hectic for me as well. The fun starts Saturday with one of my great grandma's side of the family. We meet with the other side on Christmas Eve to open gifts. Christmas morning we open gifts at our house, then go to my grandma's house, and finally head to my other grandma and grandpa's house for the night.

  15. Christmas Eve my dad's family is coming here. Dad works out of state and is gone for long periods at a time. He invited his three sisters and mother for soup and sandwiches. After we eat there will be a small gift exchange. On Christmas Day we will open our presents at home then go to my Grandma Laughlin's house. We open presents first, then eat. We will watch the football games, then after they are over we return home. Christmas will be exciting because dad is home and my big brother Andy will be home from Georgia too. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

  16. Christmas is my favorite time out of the whole year! Everyone is just so happy and everything is just great. I really like that we get out of whole for it to. I like winter to because of the snow that you get to play in. I also like snow days at least once a year. During the break i get to have time with my family and get to hang out with my friends. You get to go to awesome Christmas parties and get gifts from people and you get to eat all of their food. I cant wait to get out for Christmas break and get to do fun things.

  17. well although christmas is not really my favorite holiday i get through it. it used to be the best holiday ever but unfortuanately it's not going to be great at all this year. i keep asking my mom if i could stay and go with Caleb to his grandmas house for christmas and dinner but she says that we are moving on that day and i'm not aloud to go. what i don't understand is that up in wisconsin, where we are moving, we are not going to have a tree and i really don't care about the presents that's just a gift that's given to you. My mom is going to be going up their moving one day and not coming back but on the 27th we will be returning for her car. I was hoping that my christmas present would be staying here the 20th and going with Caleb to his grandmas and to live with Caleb and his family as we all planned but my mom has not agreed to this so i'm basically stuck. this will be the 2nd worst christmas if i don't get to stay. all i want is to see my friends and caleb on christmas day. =] i hope that all of you have a great christmas and i will miss you all even those people that i have not gotten along with i will probably miss at least a little but i hope you have a great christmas and i will hope to see you guys soon after i move.

years ago and my sister in Missouri I get to see more often she comes down normally every 3 or 4 months, so yea i love the Christmas time of the year.

  20. I absoutly love Christmas! It's probabley my favorite holiday of all times. It's the time when my family and I are finally all together! It's really good seeing all my family esepcally since most of them live far away. I know what you went through when you were gone because of the i think you said Army. My oldest sister was gone for 2 years, and it really killed me not being able to see her and scared of her getting hurt. She was in that Shanna Morson Group and she was step away from getting killed. So pretty much, this is why I really love Christmas!

  22. I know your plans are different now, with you living in Paris and all, but i am sure you will still be busy. Although it is great spending family time and running around all break, it's hectic. But i wouldnt ask for anything else

  25. I was scrolling through and looking at your blogs when I came across this one. It seems crazy that this one was written when I was 10. But, to get back on the Christmas track, today I volunteered to work at Walmart for Shop with A Cop. Shop with a Cop really made me realize how greatful I am. I think that sometimes we take for granted the things we have, such as socks and underwear. While I was at Shop with a Cop, it broke my heart to see these children wearing a plain T-shirt with no coat, just shivering. Someday I hope to find a way to help all of these children and families so Christmas is not a burden on them. We all need to be more thankful rather than be upset because we didnt get the Northface that we wanted.

  26. Christmas is my favorite season although allot of the kids in my family are very UN grateful for what they get its still my favorite holiday getting to be with my family all day and all night. Its wonderful I love it. But the worse thing about this holiday would be were always excited to see my grandpa, and he doesn't' always come so we end up waiting for no reason.

  27. Wow, I can't believe Christmas is less than 2 weeks away, funny how as I have gotten older, it is not the presents I look forward to as much as I used to... don't get me wrong I love to wake up and see all of the shiny paper under the tree. But it is the family and food I LOVE, at my Mom's we always play games on Christmas eve and the winner gets to open something. Although, it will not be one of my "Big" ones, and I know most likely it will be a new lunch box or even something more practical. I love, love, love it! I go to my Dad's for Christmas lunch with more food than anyone could possibly eat! On Christmas day evening we always go to my Grandma's for a great game of White Elephant gift giving, it must be used, it must work or have all the pieces, and it must not be left at home for grandma to dispose of!! I can't even begin to tell you the horrible gifts that have ended up there!! Merry Christmas Mr. Ogle to you and all of your family! As always to our military!

  29. Everyone needs a break or they may go a little psychotic in life. Breaks help alleviate stress coming school might put on them. I enjoy Christmas break because I can visit with family I haven't seen in a while.

  30. This is an older post, but I decided to go around a bit. It is that time a year again and I am also excited. Finals are almost finished and without a break most students wouldn't be able to function properly. Happy Holidays!
